Here at Pivotstar, we believe that no matter your size, geographic location, fitness level or skill level, it’s what’s inside that makes a great roller derby player. But if it wasn’t for gear, we’d just be sliding around an oval in our socks. So, this week, let’s talk about getting to know your gear!
Do you have problems making decisions? Do you need all of the data before you make the final choice? Derby Warehouse is here to help! Their You Tube channel is chock-full of of gear reviews and how-tos to teach you everything you need to know about popular skate and gear products.
Speaking of decisions, there are a ton of roller skate wheels on the market these days. The choice can get a bit overwhelming if you don’t really know what you’re looking for. My pals at RollerGirl.ca do know what they’re doing, and they’ve put together a really handy Guide to Roller Derby Wheels to help you figure out what you should be rolling on.
Okay, time for some real talk. Sorry to say this, but your gear stinks. Don’t pretend it doesn’t. Unless you just bought it today, the stuff inside your gear bag probably smells like butt-flavoured corn chips. And if the stink is making your roommate cry and your pets hide under the bed, don’t worry, you don’t have to trash it just yet. Jezebel.com has some great tips to de-stink your gear, no matter if it’s at Stage 1: Odor Of Which One Can Be Proud or Stage 3: Lucifer’s Jockstrap.
