More new products to introduce to you! This time around, we are so thrilled to welcome Flat Track Revolution to the Pivotstar roster.
Sometime around Rollercon 2008, we started seeing these super-cute bags and apparel with retro skate graphics walking round the IP, and it was love at first sight. Since then, FTR has been cranking out awesome, graphic, durable and unmistakable accessories for the derbyverse.
Flat Track Revolution is a story of designer meets screen printer meets seamstress. In 2008, Izabell Ringer, a graphic designer, and Slaybia Majora, a screen printer, were skating together with the Rose City Rollers. They decided to put their talents together to revolutionize derby apparel. Brick Wallace joined the FTR team a few years later as their dedicated seamstress. All three are total derby freaks and design geeks: every FTR design is a Ringer original, everything is hand printed by Slaybia, and sewing is done by Brick herself!
We especially adore FTR’s bags, so we are mega-pumped to be carrying three of their designs: Hip Bags (perfect for a street skate), Flap Totes (good for work) and Mega Bags (great for sleepovers). They all have Pivotstar-approved colour designs, including two exclusive designs that are only available here! (In neon green, purple and black, of course!)
The appeal of these bags and accessories to the roller derby crowd is pretty obvious, but these ladies don’t rest on their laurels. We spoke to Brick Wallace, who started playing derby in 2008 and is a founding member of Sicktown Derby Dames. She recently retired from skating, but is still very much connected in the roller derby community. “I attend all the local derby my schedule allows, and use the internet to stay up on divisional and championship tournaments.”
We love female-run and derby owned businesses, and that’s why FTR was a perfect fit to work with Pivotstar. “We love the Pivotstar colors, and it is always a pleasure when FTR’s booth is next to Pivotstar’s. Being paired with them online is a dream come true. I think our products go well together.”
